Our first Task

During the last couple of weeks, we have been looking at formative or practice tasks. They have shown us what the questions could look like, and we have also learnt the best way to answer each type of question.

Our first summative task will see how well we are going in terms of our understanding of energy and our learning about assessments. Again, I will ask you to add a science meme to the task so that I can easily provide you with feedback on how you went in the summative task.

Now is the time to look at forces, and use the concept to look really closely at the scientific method. We will start with the ideas of the "Balloon Rockets", to examine variables and controlling them. Eventually, we will cover all of the sections needed to be successful in creating a science report.

We will of course use formative tasks to teach about the assessment of each part of the criteria, before testing the full understanding of it.

Camp beckons and we will come back refreshed. Have a great mid-term break.

Lets learn about moving things

The coming weeks will also see our first formative task for the year. If you are unsure about what a formative task involves, please read the previous blog that tells you. It will check on your understanding of the work we have covered on distance and time graphs, and what the shape of the graph tells us about how the object has moved. The feedback that comes from this will surely help you with the summative task that will come along.

Now it becomes even more important to ask questions and seek help if you are having any sort of difficulty with the work we are doing in class.

We are also learning about using data tables and graphs. Interpreting the distance-time graph is part of upcoming in-class and formative tasks. We might even have a small test to check on the understanding of this important skill!

In the coming weeks, we will be concentrating on how objects move and how best to describe them. We will be including some observations, some descriptions and some mathematical & graphical interpretations. We will use personal data we gather and also motion detectors to help us better understand these ideas.

Don't forget to always paste in sheets so you do not lose them! I will be collecting and checking your books next week!
